Dr James Muecke
Dr Muecke is an Adelaide‑based ophthalmologist recognised nationally and internationally for his work in preventing blindness and chronic disease. He graduated with Honours from the University of Adelaide Medical School and trained in ophthalmology, subspecialising in ophthalmic plastic surgery and ocular oncology in the UK.
After decades as a clinician and educator, he co‑founded the not‑for‑profit Sight For All to fight preventable blindness in Australia and low‑income countries, impacting the lives of over one million people annually. In 2020, he was named Australian of the Year for his advocacy in public health, particularly around diabetes prevention and vision care.
